Cauliflower ear problems!!!!?
I am a college wrestler, I wear my headgear during practice, but when you have 2 hour long hard practices everyday, I’m sure you understand that headgear gives very little protection when wrestling at this level, as it has a tendency to move around on a sweaty head.
Recently, my ears have been swelling up, and they don’t feel soft or anything, and I’ve tried draining them, but it doesn’t work. I had cauliflower ear in High School, got it drained, and had to walk around for a week with my ear taped to my head.
My ears are getting puffier every day, any techniques?

If you’re going to drain it, you have to do it right when it’s swelling — not later. Once the swelling is hardened, it’s stuck like that. You can only do something about it when it is soft.
If you find your ears are sore right after practice, ice it down. That has to be within like 24 hours of the swelling, otherwise it doesn’t do you any good. If anything, icing the ear when its not ‘fresh’ will just solidify it faster.
And as others have mentioned, if possible, take some time off. That’s the only way that you can heal. Otherwise, the best you can do is minimize damage.
EDIT:
For those saying he should remove his headgear, you’re kidding right? If anything, he should try to tighten it and try his best to fix it when possible. If you think that headgear shifting on it is NEARLY as bad for his ears as someone’s hard forearm or elbow rubbing against it, then you should never give advice to anyone. And contrary to the belief of some misinformed people, getting struck is NOT the main cause behind cauliflower ear.
While impact-based trauma could possibly do it, more often than not, it comes from people grinding your limbs against your ears during grappling. Getting punched in the ear is mosst likely to aggitate the ear after you ALREADY have cauliflower ear.
