How do I train my dog to quit fighting with my cat ?

They have been together for nearly 5 years … STILL to this day, my dog would chase and wrestle with my cat when my cat just walks into the living room or to our bedroom …

Its visa versa when it comes to my cat chasing my dog and wrestles with her til she cries and some days I come home and find blood on my dog (shes white) so I clipped my cat’s nails so often, but still they are sharp as a knife in a day or 2 … I don’t believe in declawing …

Now that we have 2 bedrooms … (Before that, we had 1 bedroom and my cat would sleep with my daughter and my dog would sleep with me) Now, they both fight on my bed at night …

Please help …

It sounds to me like the cat sometimes instigates the “fighting” and sometimes it’s the dog. In that case I’d say they are just playing!! Unless it is one pet constantly starting the “fight” and the other pet just spends it’s time hiding, they just want to play. Let them play! If you don’t want them wrestling on the bed, push them off and say NO when they do it. They’ll eventually get the idea. As for the cat making the dog bleed, the dog would stop chasing the cat trying to start something if she was getting hurt too bad. It’s perfectly natural for them to play-fight like this. Be thankful your dog and cat play together! Lots of people’s dogs and cats don’t even associate with each other or it’s one sided with one pet picking on the other constantly.
