Summary of the NFL on Sunday – NFL football, NFL Previews, NFL classification
After 40 years of being abused, and dominated by the Steelers Pittsburgh, Cincinnati Bengals refused to be bullied more.
The Bengals beat the Steelers at their own game in their own stadium, building a defense that stifled Ben Roethlisberger and the Super Bowl champions by holding four field goals, and the use of a special team of great games for a victory 18-12 on Sunday that put them in control of the AFC North.
Shayne Graham kicked four field goals in the second half even though the Bengals (7-2) could not convert one opportunity after another to take control. Bernard Scott 96-yard kickoff return in the first quarter was crucial as Cincinnati, despite playing the second half not as running back Cedric Benson and not make the extra point after scoring Scott, followed by a 23-20 win over the Steelers (6-3) on 27 September.
Sweeping the season series for the first time since 1998, the Bengals lead the division by two games, as the jump itself and for the first time in its history, a record division 5-0.
Dolphins 25, Buccaneers 23
In Miami, Chad Henne turned a 77-yard drive in the final 1:10, and Dan Carpenter kicked a field goal from 25 yards with 10 seconds left.
Henne spoiled the comeback of the Bucs led by Josh Freeman, who rebounded from his team in the fourth quarter for the second time in two starts in the NFL. The rookie shook off a horrible first half and led his team to a pair of late touchdowns.
The Dolphins (4-5) won despite losing running back Ronnie Brown with a sprained right ankle in the third quarter. The Bucs (1-8) were unable to build momentum after beating Green Bay a week earlier.
An ill-advised pass was intercepted by Henne set ahead of the Bucs score with 1:14 left.
Henne, a sophomore, finished 17-of-31 for 175 yards and improved to 4-2 as a starter. Williams ran for 102 yards and Brown ran for 82 and a touchdown before the injury.
Saints 28, Rams 23
In St. Louis, Reggie Bush helped the undefeated New Orleans Saints to overcome another set of errors and get the best start in team history.
Bush scored twice for the first time more than a year and Drew Brees offset two interceptions with two touchdowns in the 28-23 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
Courtney Roby opened the second half with a kickoff return of 97 yards and take Robert Meachem 27 yards early in the fourth quarter gave New Orleans (9-0) enough breathing room to tie the franchise record with nine consecutive victories.
19-yard pass from Marc Bulger to Donnie Avery shaved the deficit to five with 2:44 to go and The Rams (1-8) to New Orleans 32 before Bulger threw incomplete into the end zone on the final play.
Panthers 28, Falcons 19

The Panthers (4-5) a 21-10 halftime advantage, but the victory was not sealed until Ryan Richard Marshall intercepted, setting up 45-yard touchdown to Jonathan Stewart run with 2:07 left.
Previously, Jason Elam missed a field goal from 34 yards that would have given Atlanta (5-4) to the head.

David Garrard knelt the ball twice, giving the opportunity Scobee kicked the game winner for the Jaguars (5-4).
It was another devastating defeat for the Jets (4-5), who left his bye week break doing the same kinds of mistakes that plagued them in the first eight games. New York has lost five of six.
Chargers 31, Eagles 23
In San Diego, LaDainian Tomlinson scored twice to continue his climb the race to land and enter the lists, and the Chargers tied atop the AFC West.
