What to know about Cagefighters
Cagefighters have existed since the time of the ancient Greeks, when unarmed combat, called wrestling, was introduced for the first time in the Olympics in the year 648 BC Pankration was known as the most extreme combat sports, and were statues to honor the top erected pankratiasts in cities as late as the Middle Ages. UFC fights, attacks and other MMA sanctioned cage fighting, carried out in an enclosed octagonal cage, or octagon, a eight-sided structure with walls near the chain link metal covered with black vinyl and heavy foam padding around the sides. Cagefighters are required to fight in approved shorts and no shoes, shirts, chalk or any foot coverings are allowed. Fighters must also use approved light gloves reduce the risk of a broken hand while providing a better ability to grasp and grip.
While cagefighter today can compete in a different environment that of early Greek fighter jets, the set of skills, methods and techniques have remained relatively unchanged over the centuries of evolution sport.
